Fresh flowers can transform a room and although we work to provide the best quality flowers they won’t last their full potential without a little help.
Whether you’ve just received a bouquet or want your wedding florals to stay beautiful a bit longer, this guide will show you how to make your blooms last.
🧼 Step 1: Unwrap and Prep your vessel.
- Gently remove any packaging, twine, or ribbon, cut this gently off with scissors to make sure you don’t damage the stems.
- Strip away leaves that would sit below the water line, pretty or not bacteria builds up in the water and causes your blooms to die quicker.
- Trim your stems at a 45° angle with clean scissors or floral shears (1–2 inches), be mindful that some flowers benefit from being cut across the bottom of their stem instead ( we will try our best to let you know the correct care of your flowers but it is always worth doing your own research too ).
- Use a clean vase ( Its not clean enough if you wouldn’t drink out of it ) with room-temperature water.
💧 Step 2: Watering & Feeding
- Change the water every 1–2 days.
- Add flower food if provided (or use 1 tsp sugar + a drop of bleach).
- Check water levels daily—some flowers drink a lot, some don’t need a lot at all!
🪴 Step 3: Where to Display Your Flowers
Keep them:
- Away from direct sunlight and heat sources
- Away from ripening fruit (which releases ethylene gas, I’m going to talk about gases some more on another page )
- Out of drafts or breezy spots
✂️ Step 4: Daily TLC Tips
- Remove any wilted or browning flowers.
- Re-trim the stems every 2–3 days, make sure you don’t cut too much on your first trim.
- Lightly mist delicate blooms like roses or ranunculus.

Roses
Remove outer guard petals and re-cut stems under water, be gentle here roses easily bruise.
Tulips
Keep trimming! They continue growing even in a vase.
Hydrangeas
Revive them by submerging the whole bloom in cold water.

- At Home: Hang flowers upside down to air dry, you can use the flowers for arrangements that will last in your space- like Potpourri you can use essential oils to give them added fragrance.
- At Home: Press blooms between the pages of a book or with a flower press to make your own art out of the dried flowers ( Direct message Beth @Patricaroses on instagram for ideas on how to do this ).
- Send the flowers back to us so we can preserve the flowers for you, with resin, pressed into a frame or if your flower type allows, into Potpourri.
